Florence is a modern city built on a glorious past. The capital of Tuscany, it is located in the gentle hills of central Italy. A beacon of light after the Dark Ages, Florence is often called the birthplace of the Renaissance—a dramatic period that unleashed creativity and mind-boggling __(1)__. The glory of the city is built on achievements in architecture, art, and technology that have remained unequaled since the Renaissance.
