Florence is a modern city built on a glorious past. The capital of Tuscany, it is located in the gentle hills of central Italy. A beacon of light after the Dark Ages, Florence is often called the birthplace of the Renaissance—a dramatic period that unleashed creativity and mind-boggling __(1)__. The Palazzo Vecchio was once the Medici’s royal residence.
